Club Training Opportunities 

 

The best resource for club events is our website calendar on the left.  Below is a listing of the types of events we host and approximate days. 


Peak Season Regular Sessions (Running from Mid April - October)


2nd Sunday Bricks - the club has a brick workout on the 2nd Sunday of the month. The bricks are designed to be suitable for all levels.  It's a great opportunity to practice your transitions and we all know that bricks are better with friends.


4th Saturday Ride - the club has a ride every 4th Saturday. The ride location varies and the rides are suitable for riders that can hold at least 15-16 mph for an hour.

Wednesday Afternoon Run/Swim - water conditions and temperature permitting at Crystal Beach


Other Opportunities

There are runs during the week on Tues, Thurs nights at Run With It.


In the Spring and Summer there is a large group ride on Wednesday night at  5pm at Ranger Camp road. Up to 38 miles with varying paces.


The Emerald Coast Cyclists hold a 50-70 mile ride every Saturday. ECC has a ride every Saturday. The A group rides fast, bring a map and do not expect anyone to wait for you if you bonk. At some rides there is a more moderate group. Check the posts on their Facebook page toward the end of the week to see if any B riders are attending. The more moderate group does not usually drop people, but you should come prepared to ride at 17-19 mph. Do not ride on your aerobars in the paceline and be familiar with good paceline etiquette.


The Crestview C4 Cycling group holds Saturday and Sunday rides in Crestview.  The drops are advertised as no drop. They have a 10 mile ride on Saturday, a slightly longer ride on Saturday and a ride on Sunday. Again, avoid your aerobars in the paceline.



Swim Locations 


Please note that the club advises swimmers to use a buddy system when open water swimming.  Please read information on Rip Currents before attempting to swim in the Gulf.


The Emerald Coast Fitness Foundation  has worked to re-open the Bernie R. Lefebvre Aquatic Center in FWB and are actively attempting to open the Destin pool as well.  The Okaloosa Liquid Dragons  is a Master's Swim club will be running masters sessions at the FWB pool, Bluewater Bay and on Base.  Check their page for full details. Pam Braseth coaches the group and does a great job. There is a nice pool on Eglin AFB as well. The hours vary.  

 

The Beach Accesses along Santa Rosa Blvd on Okaloosa Island are good locations for open water swims, the road also offers a nice sidewalk that is a good place to get in a run.   The Beach Accesses are .25 miles apart.

 

Crystal Beach Is the location for our Sunday Morning and Wednesday Afternoon swims.

 

Run and Bike Locations

 

The Florida Trail  Members often meet up to run portions of the trail every Sunday morning.  Even if you don't live near Crestview, the scenery is well worth the drive. See our Facebook page for posts related to these runs.

 

 Ranger Camp Road is located on Eglin AFB property. If you get a Range Pass from Jackson Guard, you can ride there. See the link above for the route.  You can get a nice 38 mile ride in there with minimal traffic.  Take plenty of water as there is no access to water along the route. Please be courteous and ride single file. It is the most popular place in Fort Walton for riding and we don't want to lose the privilege.

 

Freeport Recreational Center - Hammock Bay   is located off of Hammock Trail E.  This is a nice flat 10 mile loop around Hammock Bay with low traffic.  There are restroom facilities and parking available to the public.  Paths are present for running as well.
